A Personal Thanksgiving

Pastor Mark D. Boykin

We always think of Thanksgiving of being about family. It is, but what Paul is talking about is the personal Thanksgiving.

Scriptures: Ephesians 1:11-22 (KJV)

Church we have so much in the body of Christ that we never even plumb the depths of what god wants to show us. God wants to reveal to us today what God has already given to us, that so many Christian’s overlook and generalize, they don’t understand the specifics of what God has done for us.

I am blessed. You are blessed.

No matter what you face, God has already promised to take care of it.

Before we get to the points, let’s cover the prelude to our main passage today:

  • Ephesians 1:11-14

    • Verse 11: “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will…”

      • All of these blessings are yours because of the inheritance you have with Jesus, our master, our savior. An inheritance unlike anything anyone has ever received and it can’t be taken from you. No one can steal it.

    • Verse 12: “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.”

      • Our lives are a testimony of the leaked of those who first trusted in Christ. You didn’t receive this inheritance bc you’re good or special. It’s not based upon goodness talents or giftings. It’s based on your trust faith and believe on who Jesus is — your savior.

    • Verse 13: “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

      • Three words of assurance: TRUST, word of TRUTH, believed, and SEALED

      • Sealed means it’s completely and definitely done forever

      • Have you trusted in Jesus for salvation? And the word of truth — the gospel of your salvation? There is only one salvation.

      • Eternal life begins now. You don’t have just the ticket of your salvation, you have the seal. It can’t be broken by any devil in hell, on earth or above. You are sealed by the Holy Spirit of God almighty.

  • Ephesians 1:15-22

    • In this passage, Paul writes about faith in Jesus and love to unto all the saints

      • This cannot be inverted. There are some people you cannot love without the power of the Holy Spirit

      • Because of the love of God, you can love others

  1. A Thankful Man
“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,” (Ephesians 1:16-18). Don’t just pray for God to bless them; pray for the spirit of wisdom — so that their understanding of God can go deeper and deeper. God has given the completeness of the spirit of truth in our lives. God has taken care of every need you made have. It’s your inheritance in Christ Jesus. It’s not just a promise. Whatever it is you need, God will provide.

  2. A Transformative Man
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,” (Ephesians 1:19-20). God has given us the greater power in all the universe — resurrection power. The same power that raise Christ from the dead on the third day, God has given that power to you, and the authority.

  3. A Total Man
“Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” (Ephesians 1:21-23). God has given us power and authority and no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

We pray this sermon blesses you, and that you walk in the faith with the knowledge and the understanding of who you are in Christ Jesus. For this, we give all the glory and thanksgiving to God.

In Jesus name, amen.
